2011 Review

Story Highlight

2011 was our most successful year yet.

2011 was our most successful year to date, with Cash for Kids raising over £835,000 and helping over 30,000 local children.

Here is a brief breakdown of last year’s highlights.

5 BRIDES, 1 WEDDING
Last May, we narrowed down 100 applicants to just five couples through a Bootcamp-style selection process, whereby couples took part in a series of tasks and challenges set to test their compatability with each other, as well as their fundraising abilities. The 5 successful couples then battled to raise as much money for Cash for Kids as they could, in order to win an exclusive wedding package worth a staggering £25,000. All five couples performed sensationally well and surpassed all expectations. A big congratulations to our winners Kendra and Matthew on raising a whopping £16,240.81 and winning the wedding of a lifetime!

CELEBRITY FOOTBALL MATCH
Also in May, we held the third Annual Cash for Kids Celebrity Football Match at the Riverside Stadium. Celebrities including Craig Hignett, Curtis Flemming and many more, along with TFM Radio presenter Scott Makin and Street Boy, as well as a host of local teams, all of whom donated to Cash for Kids in return for the opportunity to play on the iconic pitch at the legendary Riverside Stadium, took to the field in an event that attracted crowd of just under 8,000 spectators. All in aid of Cash for Kids.

3 PEAK CHALLENGE
In September, the TFM and Cash for Kids team joined forces with many of the TFM listeners and rose to the challenge of the National 3 Peaks. Climbing the UK’s 3 highest mountains; Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike, is no small ‘feet’... It’s 11,178 of them, to be precise… All of which have to be climbed within 24 hours!

The conditions on such an expedition are some of the harshest the British Isles has to offer, but despite this, the team pulled through and raised a substantial amount for Cash for Kids and Whizz-Kids as a result of their efforts.
So a BIG thank you is in order to everyone involved this year! THANK YOU!

BARCLAYCARD COMMUNITY GIFT AWARDS
In November, Cash for Kids teamed up with Barclaycard, who had £30,000 to donate to deserving children in our area through the Community Gifts Awards. The scheme represents Barclaycard’s commitment to give something back to the communities in which it operates, so naturally, they turned to Cash for Kids for a helping hand with the project, which reached its third consecutive year.
