Car Wars
Do you like your car? Would you buy a new car? I have found myself answering thinking about such questions in my mind recently. I remember being seventeen and all that mattered then was what type of car you drove and any spare second was spent cleaning it. Now I just view it as an expensive mode of transport that I need to get out and about, that I very rarely clean and if it did, it would soon be messed up by my three children.
I remember when the Government started the car scrapage scheme to get the motor industry moving again and I know many people who took advantage of it to get a new car, sadly I did not meet the requirements at the time but if I had of done I too may have been tempted?
Currently though I have no plans of getting rid of my Toyota that has over one hundred thousand miles on its clock! It still drives brilliantly and it has never let me down! I think the reason is that a few weeks ago a received a letter from the finance company to say that I had paid the car off and in these harsh economic times I am quite relieved that a few hundred pounds is being saved each month and the thought of paying out a large deposit or trading in my car that works perfectly fine to then get a shiny new one that I will have to pay for over the next three-four years does just not appeal to me.
Thinking back to when I was seventeen, I would have signed off the finance to anything but back then I lived with my Mum and Dad so that was my only responsibility so I think I am either being grown up and sensible or boring and old?
One thing I always do though when I do get a new car and I honestly believe I am no different to plenty of other car owners and that is when you buy a new car you vow to wash it every week and never, ever eat in it, only to find two weeks later your sat in it trying to eat a KFC...
The old dealership has very kindly written to me to me to remind me that now is the time to change the car as it has lots of miles on it, but surely only a few years ago the same car was being sold to me as the best in engineering and it will never let me down, so for now until I feel completely reassured about all things financial I will put the claim of my car of never ever letting me down to the test.
