About Stu Smith
Well then what can I say about me!
What advice would you give someone starting their career today? Have a back up plan
Stu started off his radio career back in 1996 working as the late evening dj on Long Wave Radio Atlantic 252 under the alias Wayne Scales. After working for the radio giant for a year based in Ireland. He decided to return to the UK.
Stu took his Atlantic 252 name and made a name for himself on the gay scene in Newcastle at the Powerhouse nightclub. Stu worked hard at making it in the clubs and released a dance choon in 1998 ‘Luvbug feat Wayne Scales – If It Moves… Funk It’ after getting in the studio with boy band pals Paul Glenn & Wayne Tones of teen band Over 18. The Fire Island release wasn’t a big commercial hit but got some plays around the UK and was good for a laugh if nothing else. Word has it Pete Tong played it on Radio 1.
In 2000 Stu returned to radio as the networked overnight presenter at Galaxy across the UK. Under a different name this time as Wayne Stuart. He also presenting on the Galaxy weekend in the north east. It was here Stu was heard by Metro bosses who liked his fun sound. Stu joined metro in 2002 and soon worked his way to the mid morning show. Stu received great listening figures and was known for his cheeky style with callers.
In 2004 Stu got his dream job and went off down south to work at Kiss 100. The station for fun young London. Stu was received very well in the smoke but decided that London life for him was not right at that time. Stu returned to the north east and worked for Century (now Real Radio) for a little while until an opportunity came back up for him at Metro.
Stu now presents three shows at Metro and one for sister stations TFM & CFM.
