Both durham County Council and Darlington Borough council are working in partnership with LitterFreeDurham on this our second annual Big Spring Clean.

FRIDAY 20TH APRIL - FRIDAY 29TH JUNE
Dyslexia Action Adult Literacy Course
Dyslexia Action Darlington Centre, Woodland Road, Darlington, DL3 7BQ

This 10-week course is for adults who want to develop their literacy skills. This course will cover essential skills such as:

- Grammar
- Punctuation
- Base words and suffixes
- Sentence Writing
- Proof reading
- Reading for information - skimming and scanning

As part of this course, learners are able to enter for the Edexcel registered ALAN (Adult Literacy & Numeracy) exam, Entry level or Levels 1-2, and gain a National Literacy Qualification on passing the exam. This is an optional extra for this course.
This course consists of 10 sessions which will all take place on Fridays, 9:30-11:00am.

TUESDAY 15TH MAY - SATURDAY 19TH MAY
When The Lights Go On Again at Shildon Civic Hall
Main Street, Shildon, Co. Durham DL4 1AH

Wear Valley Musical Theatre Company transports you back to the 1940s with their production of "When the Lights Go On Again" looking at the life and loves of a local family in the midst of war.
Don't miss this opportunity to join in with the memorable songs, such as "White cliffs of Dover" and "We'll Meet Again", the flag waving, lots of laughs and a few tears. So come along, take your
seat and "When The Lights Go On Again" you'll be glad you came.
We will also be supporting the 'Help for Heros' charity with donations from the sale of flags and donation collections at each performance.
The performances will be in Shildon Civic Hall from Tuesday 15th May to Saturday 19th May commencing at 7:15pm. Tickets are £9 (or £5 for under 14s) and are available by telephone 01388 604285 or 01388

Richmond Operatic Society present 'Oklahoma!'
The Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, 7.30pm

This family favourite includes well known songs such as 'Oh What a Beautiful Morning', 'Surrey with a Fringe on Top', and 'Oklahoma!'.

Wensleydale Railway 40 Mile Coin Challenge

Wensleydale Railway will celebrate its 9th Anniversary on the 4th July 2012. To celebrate this achievement it is issuing a challenge to all members, volunteers and the local community.
On Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July 2012 , a 36 hour fundraiser will try to collect and lay out at Leeming Bar Station 40 miles of coins (70 400 yards). This is the original length of the line to which the Wensleydale Railway Association is continuing our efforts to re instate. All the proceeds of the fundraiser will be used as part of the Track Appeal. 
WRA is asking you to support the challenge by collecting 1p & 2p coins and donating them.  Coins can be left at Leeming Bar Station before the event or brought to Leeming Bar Station over the weekend of the event.
A Discount off the days fare will be given to anyone making a donation.

Richmond Fire Station Open Day

Richmond Fire Station open day in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity and Forces Children's Trust.
There will be bouncy castles, face painting, raffles, and demonstrations as well as a fleet of old and new fire engines.

Tom Rolfe at Saltburn Arts

Summer is fast approaching and after last years sell out show award winning children's entertainer Tom Rolfe is back with a brand new exciting show with something for everyone.
There'll be juggling, unicycling, balancing, magic, puppetry from the hilarious Spinach the dog and  Daisy the cheeky rabbit as well as mind boggling balloon modelling, gunge, chaos and most of all fun!
